Nuneaton train station boosts security with CCTV cameras

The installation of CCTV cameras will provide extra security for cyclists using the trains

Nuneaton train station have added extra security by installing two new CCTV cameras.

The new cameras will improve on the current camera coverage at the station and will also help boost security for cyclists using the trains.

Nuneaton station introduced new cycle stands and a special public bicycle tool station recently and the two new cameras are a welcome addition to the new facilities being put in place at the station.

The new CCTV cameras have been paid out of Warwickshire County councillor, Keith Kondakor’s councillor’s budget, however the cameras are owned by Network Rail.

Councillor Kondakor has been pushing for security improvements at the station for cyclists using the trains and hopes the new cameras and other new facilities will encourage more locals to get cycling.

Deputy leader at Shire Hall and cabinet member for planning and transport, Councillor Peter Butlin, said that the two new cameras installed at the station are part of recent investments into making bicycle facilities at the station better for train users and to help boost the use of cycles, which Warwickshire County Council is keen to push.

Councillor Butlin went on to thank Cllr Kondakor for spending £12,000 of his budget on improvements at Nuneaton station. He also thanked London Midland for their enthusiasm in working together on the project.

“I hope the new cameras will deter potential bike thieves at the rail station,” added Councillor Butlin.
